Education Projects
Bathurst And Gloucester Villages - Adopt-A-School
Education is central to development and a key to attaining the Millennium Development Goals. It is one of the most powerful instruments for reducing poverty and inequality and lays a foundation for sustained economic growth.
KDU's strategic thrust for empowering young Sierra Leoneans is to help achieve literacy for all and, through education, foster ecomomic growth within the community.
Investment in education benefits the individual, society, and the world as a whole. Broad-based education of good quality is among the most powerful instruments known to reduce poverty and inequality. With proven benefits for personal health, it also strengthens nations’ economic health by laying the foundation for sustained economic growth. For individuals and nations, it is key to creating, applying, and spreading knowledge—and thus to the development of dynamic, globally competitive economies. And it is fundamental for the construction of democratic societies.
This is why Krio Descendants Union (Texas) has made Education a cornerstone to fighting poverty and improve the lives of its people by
1. Establishing economic development programs and financial literacy classes to revive and empower the business community in Sierra Leone.
2. Establishing a scholarship fund to aid and assist low-income families in providing quality education for children
The benefits to an educated individual are enormous in terms of:
1. Improves health and nutrition.
2. Increases productivity and earnings
3. Reduces inequality
The same can also be said for an educated society in terms of:
1. Drives economic competitiveness
2. Has synergistic, poverty-reducing effects
3. Contributes to democratization
4. Promotes peace and stability
5. Promotes concern for the environment
We are currently raising funds and accepting donations for scholarship awards, shipment of text books and other school supplies to a much needed community with hopes and aspirations for improving their lives...
