You are all invited to NSC2010, a convention for persons whose history, culture and heritage intersect in Nova Scotia
In recent years, an increasing number of individuals have shown interest in the historical and cultural ties between Sierra Leone and Jamaica on the one hand, and Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, the US and the UK, on the other. This has taken the form of lectures and discussions, research and publications, trans-Atlantic visits and even the retracing of long-severed family connections. This much-overdue awakening culminated in the 2009 visits of Joyce Brown of Forth Worth, Texas. A transplanted Sierra Leonean, this educator, historian and author was so impacted by the experience that she immediately proposed a summer tour of interested persons, especially those residing in Europe and the Americas. Nova Scotia Connection 2010 (NSC2010) grew out of this idea. It is meant to be a gathering of affected persons for the purpose of reconnecting with Nova Scotia at the historical, cultural and social levels. While the atmosphere is to be one of recreation and relaxation, there will be ample opportunity to attend lectures on pertinent topics and visit institutions and communities that are germane to the Loyalist and Maroon presence.
