Krio heritage rich but crumbling in Sierra Leone? Do you agree? http://www.reuters.com/article/worldNews/idUSL0684532820070910
I remember when this article just came out and I read it. I disagreed, but there was a time when I may have agreed. Many Krios are overseas and as one of those born overseas I know my parents instilled in me a sense of their own culture. What do you think? |

Re: Krio heritage rich but crumbling in Sierra Leone? Do you agree? It is up to us to keep the culture going and pass it to our children, that is what KDU(TX) is all about.
The Asians and other nationals e.g the Nigerians etc do it .Why not us. It is very rich.Let us keep it alive. Buy and read the books and other articles in the yearly almanacs by KDY Fritong. Leh we ep wisef! Proud Krio girl! |

Re: Krio heritage rich but crumbling in Sierra Leone? Do you agree? Thank you for the suggestion...I have always said creoles should form a union...my granduncle ephraim Robinson was vice president of the settlers descendants union and
my other granduncle George Robinson was one of the founders of this organization. I would love to get a hold of the almanac...where can I? I have however read many books on the Krio and know the history quite well. The contributions of krios are enormous! Like you said it is up to us to pass the heritage and culture on to our children...organizations like this make it easier! I am a proud Krio boy |

Re: Krio heritage rich but crumbling in Sierra Leone? Do you agree? Having gone to Sierra Leone three times in a 12 month period recently,I will not agree.
There are many cultural practices that are alive and well in Sierra Leone.Sierra Leoneans are getting more established outside of Sierra Leone and with the birth of the Krio descendants affiliate groups I feel that there is an awakening of the culture among Krios living outside Sierra Leone. What has changed with the new mellineum is the functioning of the typical Krio family. I hope this new sense of pride for its culture continue |

Re: Krio heritage rich but crumbling in Sierra Leone? Do you agree? This is great news. I am quite glad to hear that there is a reawakening of interest in Krio culture, and particularly that Krios in Salone are very much interested in their heritage.
How has the functioning of the typical Creole family changed in Salone? For the better? |
